Trama
Si narra la vicenda di Charles Foster Kane, magnate dell'editoria. Il film inizia con un flash-back. Kane è morto, si cerca di interpretare la sua incredibile personalità, le sue speranze e le sue azioni. L'uomo è morto pronunciando la parola "Rosebud". Un giornalista si assume l'incarico di venire a capo del mistero andando a parlare con le persone che furono più vicine al magnate. Comincia dal suo più grande amico, Leland, che sostenne Kane fin dall'inizio, quando il grand'uomo sembrava animato da irresistibile spinta di onestà e fu da questi licenziato quando non si schierò dalla sua parte in una vicenda di scarsa importanza.
